ABOUT TREES FOR THE FUTURE

Trees for the Future trains farmers in agroforestry and sustainable land use so impoverished communities can grow vibrant regional economies, thriving food systems, and a healthier planet. Currently, Trees for the Future works with thousands of farming families across nine counties in sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on areas where unsustainable agriculture practices have resulted in degraded and unproductive land, nutrient-scarce food systems, climate migration and poverty. Using the Forest Garden Approach in semi-arid counties, they’ve proven that agroforestry is the solution to effectively ending hunger and poverty while restoring land and the environment.

WHEN YOU PLANT TREES

YOU'RE ENDING POVERTY.

Fruit and vegetables aren’t the only income-generating resource in a Forest Garden. Farmers are known to start businesses selling seeds and seedlings, honey, soap, timber and more.

YOU'RE ENDING HUNGER.

The average Forest Garden is home to dozens of food crops, providing access to diverse, nutrient-rich meals year-round.

YOU'RE PROTECTING THE PLANET.

The Trees for the Future teaches farmers a Forest Garden Approach to farming that restores degraded land, captures carbon, improves biodiversity, and prevents future unsustainable land use practices.

YOU'RE EMPOWERING WOMEN.

Farmer groups in the Trees for the Future program are composed of at least 30% women. Most exceed that benchmark, with many led by or composed entirely of women farmers.
